Ascorbic Acid Metabolism in Rats

چکیده
1. The effect ofdietary molybdenum on the growth rate and also on ascorbic acid metabolism in rats was studied. An excess of dietary molybdenum resulted in growth retardation and loss of weight. Tolerance to molybdenum was affected by the nature ofthe molybdenum salt administered. 2. Molybdenum ingestion altered certain aspects of ascorbic acid metabolism in rats. The conversion ofD-glucuronolactone into L-ascorbic acid in vitro and the oxidative breakdown of L-ascorbic acid by liver enzymes decreased with high molybdenum intakes. The activity of liver uronolactonase was slightly inhibited. The activities of L-gulonate dehydrogenase and L-gulonate decarboxylase were not affected appreciably. 3. Molybdenum supplementation of the control diet resulted in an increase in ascorbic acid content of spleen and adrenal gland, and in a marked decrease in the urinary excretion of ascorbic acid and glucuronic acid. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Effect of Diabetes Induction and Exercisetraining on the Level of Ascorbic Acid and Muscle SVCT2 in Male Wistar Rats
Introduction: Sodium-dependent vitamin C transporter 2 (SVCT2) plays an important role in the transfer of ascorbic acid to slow-twitch fiber. The purpose of this study was investigating the effect of diabetes induction and exercise training on the level of ascorbic acid and muscle SVCT2 in rats. Methods: In this experimental study, 20 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups (n=...
متن کاملاثرات درمان با انسولین و اسید اسکوربیک بر سطح پلاسمایی مس در رتهای دیاتبیک شده با استرپتوزوتوسین
Background and Aim: Perturbations in copper (Cu) metabolism are characteristic of diabetes type I. Hyperglycemia and increased free radicals generation result in increased Cu plasma levels and leads to oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to determine the antioxidant effects of ascorbic acid on Cu plasma levels in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: ...
متن کاملDietary taurine alters ascorbic acid metabolism in rats fed diets containing polychlorinated biphenyls.
The effect of dietary taurine on ascorbic acid metabolism and hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes was investigated in rats fed diets containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) to determine whether taurine has an adaptive and protective function in xenobiotic-treated animals. Young male Wistar rats (60 g) were fed diets containing 0 or 0.2 g/kg diet PCB with or without 30 g/kg diet of taurine for ...
متن کاملProtective Effects of Extract from Dates (Phoenix Dactylifera L.) and Ascorbic Acid on Thioacetamide-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats
The ameliorative activity of aqueous extract of the flesh of dates (Phoenix dactylifera L.) and ascorbic acid on thioacetamide-induced hepatotoxicity was studied in rats. Sixty male rats were divided into six equal groups of 10. Two groups were controls, one treated with thioacetamide and one with only distilled water. Two groups received extract of flesh Phoenix dactylifera and intraperitoneal...
